From time to time one professional politico or another may try to jump out in front of the parade. But everyone knows that the Tea Party has no leader, and with a little luck never will. That's because it's not a political party. In the best tradition of the American Revolution, it's an angry mob. Hence, the name.
In California, the remnants of ACORN have become the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment. In Massachusetts, they have become New England United for Justice. And in New York, they have become New York Communities for Change
The founding document of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, states that governments derive “their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Today, however, just 21% of voters nationwide believe that the federal government enjoys the consent of the governed.
The point, expectedly, has been entirely missed by some. It isn’t that the Tea Parties aren’t racist because minorities attend them, it’s that the overwhelming majority of Tea Party members simply don’t care one iota for skin color. It’s an unremarkable attribute to a person. It’s neither here nor there. The issue at hand is government spending and politicians that won’t listen, not the shade of your epidermis.
Mike Kelly, Principal of Profile High and Middle School, in Bethlehem, said the NECAP is one of several measures as to how well students are doing. "It is an aspect," he said, "and we take it seriously and use it." Kelly so believes in transparency that he produces an annual report that explains all the available data. One general concern he has is the state-wide drop in performance that occurs between in 7th and 8th grade and 11th grade.
Under the 17th’s statewide electoral system, the individual voter is small and isolated, only one out of thousands or, in many cases now, millions of voters casting ballots. His influence in the election is marginal.
Among the activities: hiking in Franconia Notch State Park, a canopy tour at Bretton Woods, shopping and antiquing in Littleton and Bethlehem, and trail riding in North Conway. Save money by cooking meals in your cottage kitchen or on the grill; for the occasional splurge, try one of the area’s many restaurants.
At about 4:30 p.m. last night, state police moved in to arrest Allan Bryson, 49, of Bethlehem, for allegedly stabbing England.
Alstead, Bethlehem, Deerfield, Goffstown, Raymond, Rindge and Winchester opted against voting on the resolution at town meeting.
If the proposal wins the necessary approvals, the property owners, George and Sara Foss, of Bethlehem, plan to offer it to the town at bargain price.
