Democrats' Healthcare Censorship Shows How Desperate They've Become

Commentary: Democrats' Healthcare Censorship Shows How Desperate They've Become
Source: Peter Roff; U.S. News & World Report

Excerpt:
A clear sign of their growing desperation is the way in which the Democrats are censoring the GOP's official communications to their constituents. On Thursday Roll Call reported the majority party is "preventing Republican House Members from sending their constituents a mailing that is critical of the majority's health care reform plan."
Republican staffers say this kind of censorship of the minority by the majority is almost unheard of on Capitol Hill, certainly during the years the GOP was in power. Moreover, they say, it is a clear sign that the Republicans are, for the moment, winning a fight once thought unwinnable. Rather than get them down, they are taking the efforts to suppress their message as a badge of effectiveness.

If you prize choosing your own cardiologist or urologist under your company's Preferred Provider Organization plan (PPO), if your employer rewards your non-smoking, healthy lifestyle with reduced premiums, if you love the bargain Health Savings Account (HSA) that insures you just for the essentials, or if you simply take comfort in the freedom to spend your own money for a policy that covers the newest drugs and diagnostic tests -- you may be shocked to learn that you could lose all of those good things under the rules proposed in the two bills that herald a health-care revolution.

Mayo Clinic Writes Congress

Open Letter to Congress by Mayo Clinic
Under the current Medicare system, a majority of doctors and hospitals that care for Medicare patients are paid substantially less than it costs to treat them. Many providers are therefore already approaching a point where they can not afford to see Medicare patients. Expansion of a Medicare-type plan without a method to define, measure, and pay for healthy outcomes for patients will move many doctors and hospitals across this threshold, and ultimately hurt the patients who seek our care. We should not put more Americans into the current unsustainable system.

Article: Shea-Porter: “Many of My Constituents Would Love to Wait in Line for Medical Care”

HotAir's Commentary: The best part of ObamaCare? Lines!
GraniteGrok's Commentary: So, Carol Shea-Porter believes that I want to stand in line for medical care???

In Fairness:
We should note that (we assume) she was referring to those without health insurance and that would be happy that they had the problem of standing in line.

However:
Those of us who have health insurance don't want to have the problem of standing in line! When we talk about standing in line, we're not referring to having to wait in a waiting room. Rather, we referring to shortages that would be created due to unlimited demand (free healthcare) and limited supply (quality healthcare). Especially when those shortages are created by the government confiscating our wages and spreading it around. In short, we don't want to be forced into a government run HMO.

What's More:
When the President says that if we like our health insurance then we can keep it, he's not being completely straight-forward. First, keeping your health insurance may depend upon your employer maintaining your current plan. If they dump it for the cheaper "public option" then you're out of luck. Sorry. Second, if your employer doesn't dump your plan, then when he say your can keep your insurance, he really means that you'll be stuck with it. You won't be able to switch to another private plan without going through the government health-insurance exchanges. Hooray.

NH Man Charged 23 Quadrillion Dollars for Smokes

Article: NH Man Charged 23 Quadrillion Dollars for Smokes
Source: caledonianrecord.com; July 16, 2009

Comments:
BoA and Visa didn't offer an explanation, so we'll offer an explanation. This could be due to a padding programming bug. Josh Muszynski, from Manchester, was incorrectly charged $23,148,855,308,184,500. If you multiply 23,148,855,308,184,500 x 100, and then convert it to hex, then you get the value 2020202020201250. "20" is the hex value for a space in ASCII. So, the bug was probably that they had padded Mr. Muszynski's charge with spaces rather than zeros. If you replace the space hex values for zeros, and then convert it back to decimal and divide by 100, then you get the value 46.88. If anyone knows Mr. Muszynski, then you could ask him if the correct charge should have been $46.88. If so, then mystery solved.

The People v. The Establishment

Ron Paul: The American People Demand Transparency! Audit the Fed!

HR 1207 now has a total of 270 co-sponsors (62% of the Reps). Every Republican in the House of Representatives is a co-sponsor. The Senate version, S. 604, has 13 co-sponsors (13% of the Senators).

The Establishment is starting to push back. A petition of university professors has been sent out. Then want to preserve the independence secrecy of the Federal Reserve. Listen to this interview, and how the interviewer concludes the interview.

The danger, the interviewer claims, is that the Federal Reserve needs to remain independent so that it can keep inflation low ... it's at this moment that we're trying not to laugh too hard. What has been the effect of this resolve to keep inflation "low". Here's the data:

Yes. A staggering reduction in the worth of the dollar. Hooray for inflation!

Heath Bill in House of Congress Relies on Wealth Tax

Heath Bill in House of Congress Relies on Wealth Tax
Source: WSJ; By GREG HITT and MARTIN VAUGHAN; July 11, 2009

The CBO estimates the Health Bill will cost $1T over the next decade. The "Wealth Tax" will raise $540B over the next decade. That would leave Congress short by $460B (assuming the $1T is accurate). But don't worry, just think of all the money we'll save via preventative care and if we don't save it then we'll just add it to the Federal Credit Card. Yes, raise their taxes once in 2011, and then a second time in 2013. Don't worry, it'll only hurt a little bit.

If you don't believe the markets can solve the health insurance problem, then please read "How Safeway is Cutting Health-Care Costs". The article states, "At Safeway we believe that well-designed health-care reform, utilizing market-based solutions, can ultimately reduce our nation's health-care bill by 40%. The key to achieving these savings is health-care plans that reward healthy behavior."

And, of course, for the "give me a break" perspective, consider John Stossel's article: Insurance Is No Answer

Of course, by now you should know the drill. The central planners, in secrecy, mess everything up. Thus, creating the scenario where solution requires that we all have to surrender just a "little" bit of our sovereignty to the global governance bureaucrats. We're told its necessary and that it must be done. Please, spare us.

The Obama Administration was actually contemplating additional stimulus! They were claiming that the last one wasn't enough. $787B wasn't enough? Give us a break!. On Saturday the President announced that a second stimulus won't be necessary. Finally some sensibility, but only because the public was miffed at even the suggestion of more stimulus.

The Federal Government is waging a war on Capitalism. And, they're doing it all in the name of "helping us". Well, how's that other stimulus bill working for us?

Meanwhile, the Treasury now has to roll-over $2T every year, with the average duration being four years. In other words, the Treasury is borrowing short, and spending long. (This should work out well.)
