Recycling Concerns
I feel terrible about not knowing what to do with cans and bottles while we have the temporary transfer station. I burn some of my newspapers in our wood stove, but I want to know what to do with the other stuff. I feel so environmentally guilty putting them in the Bethlehem bags and just tossing them. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any word of a DOT permit?

About U.S. Debt:
About Politicans Spin on the U.S. Debt:
H.R. 2454: American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009
HR 2454 is now 930 pages long. It is one of the most stiffling taxs since the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act. Has the author of the bill even read his own bill?

About Politicans Spin on the U.S. Debt:
- Obama Plans to Cut Deficit in Half
- That's the same thing Bush said! Do politicians think we don't know the difference between deficit and debt. So the deficit will be cut in half by 2012. Congratulations! The debt will have doubled!
About the Recession, Revenue and Taxes:
- IRS Tax Revenue Falls Along With Taxpayers' Income
- Once Considered Unthinkable, U.S. Sales Tax (VAT) Gets Fresh Look
- In our opinion, a national sales tax is inevitable due three things: (1) European style social programs lead to European style taxation; (2) Half the population no longer pays income taxes and the government always goes where the money is, the middle class; and (3) Internet commerce is able to exclude a state sales tax when shipped across state lines and the business doesn't have a business presence in the destination state. The only way to re-capture that tax revenue is with a national sales tax.
- Electrical Consumption Sees First Outage Since WWII
- The Biggest Tax Increase In World History
Speaking of the Impact of the Internet:
- Internet Start-ups Will Bankrupt The US Government
- First, we disagree that the US Government will go bankrupt in the sense that a business goes bankrupt. So long as the Federal Gov't can monetize its debt, then it will never go "bankrupt". It can always pay its debts with printed money. That is, so long as the Federal Reserve can inflate, without consequence from the People, then the charade continues.
- However, we agree that the days of the Federal Government, in its current form, are numbered. The Federal Government won't go bankrupt because it runs out of "money". It will go bankrupt because it loses legitimacy in the eyes of the People and the States. The current manifestation of the Federal Government is based on industrial age concepts of centralized management. Concepts being pushed to new levels by the current Congress and Administration. If fact, its easy to argue that the Federal Government is the last dinosaur standing with a power structure cast in the die of industrial-age thinking.

On Health Care:
- An Alternative to Obamacare
- We agree with Senator's Coburn and Burr. The problem isn't affordable healthcare, the problem is that the tax code orients affordable healthcare around being employed to a large employer. In the 1930's, FDR was going to take over healthcare, but businesses convinced him that they could handle it. This was good ... for the industrial era. However, we're no longer in the industrial era. We need a healthcare tax code policy that fits today's economy. That means orienting things at the individual level. Orienting things at the Federal Government level will be worse than today's problem. It is an industrial age style proposal!

In an interview with CNBC, Mr. Munger said: "It would be a huge shock to the economy and it wouldn't accomplish very much given the fact that the vast majority of the pollution, or rather the CO2, is coming from a place like China. And so I think it would be almost demented if we would rush into cap-and-trade right now in the middle of this economic crisis."

In the "Give Us A Break" Column:
- How Social Security Can Save Us All
- The author concludes by assuring us that "And, lest anyone forget, in more than two centuries of continuous operations, and despite crises far worse than this one, the government has never gone bankrupt." Excuse me? What do you call FDR's confiscating all the gold in the country? The only reason the Federal Government has not gone bankrupt is because the Federal Reserve debases the dollar (aka inflation) on its behalf. Yes, it's true they still "pay", but it is only done via a "pretend payment" of money worth less than the money the debt was issued in. So, run that by us again, what were you saying about the government having never gone bankrupt and how social security can save us all?
