Recycling Concerns

I feel terrible about not knowing what to do with cans and bottles while we have the temporary transfer station. I burn some of my newspapers in our wood stove, but I want to know what to do with the other stuff. I feel so environmentally guilty putting them in the Bethlehem bags and just tossing them. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any word of a DOT permit?
